Learn to ride horses at Brave River Ranch from an instructor with many years experience with horses. The riding instructor was born and raised with horses. She rode to grade school for three years, weather permitting. As a youth, Linda was expected to carry her load by working cattle. Long hours were spent in the western saddle counting cattle, looking for the strays and helping to round them up. She trained colts, competed in horse shows. judged horse shows and for ten years was a 4-H leader for Grantville 4-H members enrolled in the Horse Project. She taught herself to ride side-saddle, rode in four Kansas Centennial parades and competed in costume classes at horse shows. While living the Wichita area, she taught herself to ride English and studied books on Dressage, Hunt Seat, Saddle-Seat and Western Riding. After training a number of young colts, Linda knows that English basics can help bring out the potential in every animal. Reading and collecting old horse manuals, as well as reading contemporary magazines and books, keep Linda up to date. Years of experience have taught Linda a variety of ways to help the new rider increase horsemanship skills. Linda has a bachelor's and master's degree in education from Emporia State University. She has belonged to the Wheat State Morgan Horse Association for about 34 years. She has been a member of the Kansas Horse Council for the past three years. After moving to the Lake Perry area, Linda discovered there were no horse trails. Action-minded, she wrote a proposal to the Kansas State Park Authority to establish trails and persuaded area saddle clubs to endorse the plan. The Kansas State Authority approved the proposal, and the Perry State Park became the site of Kansas' first horse trails in 1978. From the beginner to the serious-minded show rider, English, Western, and Side-Saddle lessons will be taught on an individual basis. Included will be the proper care of horses and understanding and applying horse psychology. Supervision and safety is of utmost importance.
